Abstract:Global Positioning System is presently used as space reference for flight inspection system. However, this mode of positioning has inherent flaws in accuracy, performance and reliability. SPAN (Synchronous Position, Attitude and Navigation) technology introduced in the paper includes the two different yet complementary positioning and navigation technologies, GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) and Inertial Navigation System (INS). Combining GNSS with INS has the capability of being more accurate and reliable in accuracy, performance and reliability than either GNSS or INS has. The application of SPAN on flight inspection system can ensure the implementation of continuous, stable and reliable position and attitude data under loss of GPS signal and high dynamic environment by using absolute accuracy of GNSS positioning and the stability of inertial measurement unit (IMU) gyro and accelerometer measurements.
