Space-based AIS is a new research field which has arisen in recent years. It may be widely spread, which attracts a growing interests from researchers in the world. The technical development status of the space-based AIS abroad is introduced, including the shipborne AIS status, the concept and development of space-based AIS, with the emphasis on the current status concerning the key technologies. The potentially future trend in technology of the space-based AIS is presented.
