Abstract:The randomness and incoherence of TACAN interrogation pulses are used by the direction finding function of surveillance radar, the signal receiver which is dependent form TACAN equipment is added. The direction finding antenna uses nine vertically polarized omnidirectional horizontally non-reflective plate array elements to constitute a single layer circular array, mounted on top of the ground TACAN antenna, combing with TACAN ground antenna as overall cylindrical array antenna. The interrogation signals receiving and processing circuit can calculate the direction of airborne TACAN. Air-to-air distance measuring function between airborne TACAN equipments makes it possible for ground-to-air reverse distance measuring of the surveillance radar in the air-to-air operating channel. The uplink interrogation pulses of the surveillance radar will be transmitted in the short interval after the main and secondary reference pulses sent from ground TACAN equipment. The corresponding downlink reply pulses will be received by the independent channel of the surveillance radar.
