JRE (Joint Range Extension) Application Protocol is designed for the transmission and reception of tactical digital data over satellite communications and fiber media to overcome the line-of-sight (LOS) limitations of tactical digital link system. This paper first introduces the work principle of JRE and Protocol reference Model, and then makes an intensive study in frame structure designing and the mechanism of establishing a common time reference of JRE.
